Most people know insulin comes through injections or pumps. Fewer know about a newer option for adults called inhalable insulin. The inhaler, Afrezza, is FDA approved for adults and was being studied for children when this story first aired in 2023.

DGD Clinic in San Antonio was one of 40 clinics in the country taking part in that study. Dr. Mark Kipnes explains why the inhaler matters, how fast it works, and how it reduces the need for mealtime injections. Terri Ryan, Certified Diabetes Educator, also shows how the device works and explains the main side effect.
