Mark S. Kipnes, M.D.

Biography

Dr. Kipnes is a Board-Certified Endocrinologist with an expertise in several areas such as diabetes mellitus, Type 1 and Type 2, to include retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy, adult obesity, diseases of the thyroid and the pituitary, osteoporosis, polycystic ovarian syndrome, hyperlipidemia, testosterone deficiency. Highly regarded by his patients and his peers, he is a highly experienced physician with over thirty-two years in the field of Endocrinology/Diabetes/Metabolism, both in private practice and in research.  He earned his Medical Degree from Hahnemann Medical College (Drexel Univ.) in 1979.  He completed his Fellowship in Endocrinology at George Washington University Medical Center in 1984.  

He joined the Diabetes & Glandular Disease Clinic in San Antonio, Texas as second partner in July 1984, and since December 2016 has served as Executive Committee President for the Clinic.  Highly regarded by his patients, Dr. Kipnes is the recipient of numerous awards, including being listed on SuperDocs and Checkbook Top Docs of Texas.  Accomplished in the field of research, Dr. Kipnes has served on several Advisory Boards in the past, including Lilly Research Labs and Jansen Advisory Board.  He has been an Adjunct Associate Professor/Clinical Instructor of Medicine/Endocrinology for the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for numerous years.  He is a published author, having articles in peer-reviewed journals, and is an active member of several esteemed professional groups, including the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, The American Diabetes Association, and the Endocrine Society, to name a few.
