Why Do You Need Diabetes Education Services?

Every person who walks through our door has their own story. Maybe your doctor told you your numbers are too high and you need to make changes. Maybe you’re scared about starting insulin. Maybe you’ve tried everything and nothing seems to work. Whatever brought you here, you’re in the right place.

You might need our help if:

  • Your blood sugar or A1C numbers are too high, and you can’t get them down
  • You just found out you have diabetes and feel lost
  • Your doctor wants you to start taking insulin or use a new device
  • You’re confused about what foods to eat
  • You need help making a plan that actually works for your real life

We get it. Making big changes is hard. That’s why we don’t expect you to change everything at once. Instead, we’ll help you set small goals that you can actually stick with. Your doctor will start a care plan when you first visit, and then our educators will work with you one-on-one to make it fit your needs.

Diabetes Education Classes That Fit Your Schedule

We know you’re busy. Between work, family, and everything else, finding time for appointments is tough. That’s why we offer classes at different times during the week. You can choose group classes with a wide variety of times to select. Or, you can meet with us one-on-one.

What We Teach:

  • Food and Exercise: What to eat, what to avoid, and how to move more without it taking over your life
  • Diabetes 101: Just got diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes? We’ll explain everything you need to know to get started.
  • How to Use Insulin: We’ll teach you the right way to take your insulin shots.
  • Glucose Monitors and Insulin Pumps: Learn how to use these devices so they actually help you.

Getting Help After Your First Visit

Diabetes doesn’t go away after one class. We want to keep helping you for as long as you need us. How often we can see you depends on how you’re paying:

Paying Out of Your Own Pocket

If you want to pay cash, we’ll see you whenever you need help.

Private Insurance

Every insurance plan is different. Some let you come several times a year. Others only pay for classes once in a while. Call your insurance company to ask what they cover, so you don’t get surprised by a bill.

Medicare Part B

If you have Medicare Part B, they’ll usually cover your classes as long as your doctor sent us a referral. You can get up to 10 hours of help, which is usually 1 hour by yourself with an educator and 9 hours in group classes.

Diabetes Education Services FAQs

1. Do I need a referral for diabetes education services?

Yes. Most insurance plans require a referral from your doctor or nurse practitioner before they will cover diabetes education classes.

2. Who should consider diabetes education?

Diabetes education can help people who are newly diagnosed, have high blood sugar or A1C levels, are starting insulin, or feel unsure about managing diabetes day to day.

3. What happens during a diabetes education visit?

You meet with a diabetes educator who reviews your health goals, explains diabetes care in simple terms, and helps create a plan that fits your lifestyle.

Both options may be available. Some patients attend group classes, while others meet one-on-one with an educator, depending on scheduling and insurance coverage.
